About This Project
The Fixers is a feature-length documentary film by Thomas Morgan (Soufra, Waiting for Mamu) that will take viewers behind the scenes of frontline journalism in the Middle East to meet four courageous women who are “the fixers” that pave the way for journalists to capture the stories from some of the world’s most dangerous places. From helping the top news agencies to navigate war-torn streets with invisible enemy lines to the delicate negotiations done in numerous languages in order to get permission to even turn on the cameras, fixers do the dirty work to make world news known.
Morgan discovered these stories during the filming of the award-winning film Soufra
, shot in Burj el-Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon, where his own fixer, Daisy Mohr, made his film possible. Inspired by what he experienced, this film will follow Daisy and 3 other females fixers as they straddle the vastly different realities of the danger and pressure of their work in the field and their more commonplace daily lives at home with family. We will see the world through their eyes, discovering that they are driven by an intense sense of purpose in their work, knowing that the world needs to see, and hear, and bear witness to what is really happening to the most vulnerable among us. After all, they are the fixers.
